ABOUT ME

AboutMe_Pic1.jpg

My name is Jonathan Gotlib. I'm a landscape photographer, video producer, and communications professional from Woburn, Massachusetts.

My passion for photography began in high school with video production. That’s always been at the heart of my background and experience. Whether it was working for my local television station growing up or the Boston Bruins later in my 20s, being behind a camera has always brought me joy and the ability to show people what I can do.

However, in 2014, I left the busy world of professional hockey for a slower pace of life in communications work for an independent boarding school in Central Massachusetts. Teaching myself the ins and outs of a Canon 5D Mark III became necessary to succeed and thrive in that new environment. While video production has remained something I still do every day for work – on the web and social media – photography has slowly become my new passion.

Fast-forward a few years and a pandemic later, I married a beautiful woman, and we have an amazing little girl together. During the first year of our daughter’s life – when I couldn’t go back to sleep after middle-of-the-night feedings – I began to find myself watching landscape photographers on YouTube.

At first, it was simply about learning new tips and tricks from other photographers and while there was definitely FOMO happening inside, watching them hike around the world, framing up these incredible subjects and vistas gave me the inspiration I didn’t know I needed to begin thinking about photography differently.

Anxiety and depression have plagued my life since back to those glorious days in high school, and unfortunately, it took me 36 years to realize I needed help. I wouldn’t be where I am today – finally getting the help, I so desperately needed – if it wasn’t for my wife helping me see that the world around me doesn’t need to be the mundane/vanilla place I see every day.

Going on regular hikes and taking my camera gear along for the ride have been critical therapeutic tools for feeling better about myself and finding happiness. I continue to learn more about photography daily and hope you enjoy what I have to share.
